60th Birthday starting 10th February

David had been talking for some time how he would like to go on the Ghan. I went to Jetset travel told them what I would like to do and they organised for us to fly out of Gladstone via Brisbane then Sydney to Ayers Rock arriving Tuesday afternoon
 

where we enjoyed a "Sounds if Silence Dinner" in the middle of the dessert along with Dingos.

Wednesday  we enjoyed a Sunrise tour of Uluru and walked into the Gorge.

At the lookout David loved the furniture.

at 11.30 am we were collected by coach and taken to Alice Springs visiting Curtain Springs where we were able to see a Mesa known as Mt Connor.

We stopped another two times before arriving at Alice Springs we used the ablutions and quickly hopped back on the bus out of the hot winds. At Alice Springs after settling into our motel we headed to Lassiters Casino 200metres down the road for dinner.

Thursday we caught a taxi to the train station where we boarded the Ghan

We were taken to the lounge for a complimentary drink then to our cabin where champagne awaited us on the table.

We were enjoying the trip till David aggravated his knee on the way to dinner and was not able to walk.

The meals were restaurant quality and we were looked after very well, when David was not able to walk to breakfast they bought room service.

The views from our window and the experience of the trip was something we will remember for a long time. Below are wind generators.

Friday after being picked up by a chauffeur driven limosene when we arrived in Adelaide I was able to book David into  a physio who were able to give him some relief with the pain in his knee.

Saturday we were booked to go on a tour of the Barossa Valley and after the help of the physio we were able to go stopping first at the big Rocking Horse

Then the home where a Man, his wife and two children used to live.

Wolf Blass was our first winery to visit.

The second of our winery's was Kaesler where we were allowed to pick and eat the grapes.

The third was Grant Burge

And the fourth was Keis a family owned winery now in its 6th generation.

On the way home we stopped at the whispering wall. One person on each end of the wall and when you spoke your voice travelled along the wall to the other side as clear as if they were beside you. it was quite amazing.

Back at the motel we were able do go to dinner and a show as part of Fringe,  a festival that was being held in Adelaide.

Sunday we were picked up by the limosene and taken to the airport for our trip home and were met at Gladstone by Mum, Kylie and Tim.

Mira 6th - 9th September 2013

Yesterday we drove to Mira, we went for a paddle in the afternoon without fishing rod or stitching.  This morning we headed out with rod and hexies to stitch. No fish, 15 hexies stitched. It was so relaxing on the water. Cooked and enjoyed our bacon and eggs on a nearby BBQ. Now for a game of scrabble together on our iPads.

Quilt as you go Hexagons

Lay small hexagon on top of pellon/wadding (You can use cotton or wool wadding or pellon depending on the project)

Centre above step onto large hexagon

Fold edge of large hexagon into small hexagon and finger press

Fold edge again and pin or clip it to the small hexagon, continue this process all the way around the hexagon.

Now it is time to start stitching - thread an applique needle with bottom line thread to match backing fabric, stitch around as for stitching binding on a quilt stitching into corners as you go...

Once all hexagons are complete you can stitch them together with a whip stitch on the inside or glove stitch on the outside.

GLOVE STITCH - The Glove Stitch, called this because it is the stitch used to make kid gloves, consists of a zig-zag of straight stitches.  It is sometimes called the Bosnian Stitch.

Make this stitch by bringing the needle up at A and down at B, then up at A and down at C, then up at D and Down at C, etc.  This make a pretty edge stitch.
